One of the best places to get direct information about this approval is on the city’s website. Many of the supporting documents and the actual approval can be found here.
In addition, Don Sargent, the City Project Coordinator, has provided a summary of all three applications and their current statuses. He has indicated that he intends to regularly update these reports in an effort to keep the public better informed. Contact information has also been provided and we would highly encourage you to contact Don Sargent directly with any questions or concerns you may have with the Wohali project.
While it is important to understand the City Staff’s position on this decision, as citizen’s we also reserve the right to present our perspective. In an electronic City Council meeting on April 13, 2020 Don Sargent informed the Council of his intent to approve the golf course application. Due to the unusual meeting format where no one was visible and particularly because no vote was requested it was impossible to know if the Council was supportive of this approval.
We understand that Staff has authority to make routine permitted use approvals but it is also clearly within Staff’s authority to request formal approval by the City Council and even a public hearing. Due to the magnitude of this decision and the intense public interest it seems prudent and in the best interest of not only the city but also the applicant to receive additional affirmation of this critical approval.
For this primary purpose a group of 10 citizens has joined together and filed an appeal to have this approval reviewed by our City Council – Appellate Body. You can read the full appeal and attachments here:
